Panasonic DVDS55S

DVD and So Much More

This versatile little DVD player can play a variety of audio and video disc formats, including the following: DVD-Audio, DVD-Video, DVD-RAM, DVD-R, video CD, audio CD, and CD-R/RW, including MP3, WMA, and JPEG files. The new standard for super high-fidelity sound, DVD-Audio discs provide multiple channel stereo, incredible storage capacity, and unique bonus materials not available on regular audio CDs. This player also features HighMAT (High-Performance Media Access Technology). Co-developed by Panasonic and Microsoft, HighMAT was designed to significantly improve interoperability for digital media content between PCs and popular electronics devices such as CD players, car stereos and DVD players. HighMAT is a digital-media standard that provides a dramatically improved method of storing, arranging and playing back personal digital photo, music and video collections on recordable discs such as CD-RW media. So get the DVD player that does it all.

Progressive Scanning

Progressive scanning is the key to the sharpest picture quality the DVD-Video format has to offer. Progressive scanning creates a picture signal with double the scan lines of a conventional interlaced picture to create a noticeably sharper image. The 480P progressive scan image offers higher picture resolution and eliminates virtually all motion artifacts. Even on large screens, the progressive scan lines are barely noticeable and picture flickering is greatly reduced. With Panasonic's progressive scan system working for you, you can look forward to enjoying many hours of entertainment that is a real treat for your eyes (your TV must be capable of displaying a 480p image).

Enhancements for Increased Enjoyment

Panasonic gives you additional control and improved processing to enhance your home theater experience. Advanced Surround lets you enjoy the thrilling sound of Dolby Digital 5.1 channel discs without an elaborate home theater system by creating the illusion of surround sound from just two speakers. Cinema mode combines brightness control with picture noise canceling to provide better picture quality in certain viewing conditions. Dialogue Enhancer increases the center channel volume, making movie dialogue easier to hear and understand. You have the ability to make quick, easy adjustments so what you see and hear is most pleasing to your eyes and ears. A progress indicator displays a scale at the top of the screen for at-a-glance confirmation of your current playback location and remaining play time. Quick replay allows you to jump back 7-10 seconds during playback just in case you missed something or want to see it again.

Twin Laser Pickup

If you want to get the most out of your DVDs and CDs, you'll appreciate the Twin Laser Pickup featured on this player. This Twin Laser Pickup design uses one objective lens with two laser units that have different wavelengths optimized for playing DVDs and CDs (including CD-R/RW discs). The integrated design of the Twin Laser Pickup's DVD unit reduces noise pickup by using an OEIC (optical electric IC) with a built-in I/V amp. This highly sensitive state-of-the-art optical pickup is made possible by Panasonic's advanced optical device technology. In other words, Panasonic gives you great performance from all of your discs.

54MHz 10-Bit Video D/A Converter

The video digital/analog converter in this high performance player uses 54MHz oversampling to help maximize the amazing picture quality made possible by its progressive-scan system. By processing the DVD video signal at four times the original 13.5MHz rate, this technology provides vivid and finely textured image reproduction. To provide a truly magnificent picture, the recorded 8-bit DVD image data receives 10-bit processing for faithful reproduction of delicate signal details. Once again Panasonic goes well above and beyond basic requirements to assure you of the best picture your TV is capable of.
